O.K. I decided to try the pragmatic approach.

I created a brand new Impression template from scratch, imported the
styles from the old one and cut & paste the contents - thus creating
a brand new Manual.

I converted it to OPro and .... (wait for it!) .... the previously
errant pages printed OK on my RPC RO4.39 !Printers 1.62.

So perhaps it was something lurking in my (quite old) Impression
document format which messed up the conversion subtly.

I've offered it to the guy who first alerted me. I'll let you know if
he still has problems.

I'm not sure what lessons to learn from this lot though. :-)
