[softwarelist] Re: OPW and Windows antialiasing

From the LCD display onscreen appearance of OPW documents in Windows XP, I had been under the impression that OPW did not make (proper) use of the Windows font smoothing facilities -- i.e. the appearance of text in OPW was decidedly "spidery" in comparison to the appearance of the same text in MSWORD.

Hmm. Ovation Pro uses the Windows font manager, so results should be identical to any other program that uses it.

I've used LCD screens for a long time, and I've always had Windows "Clear type" turned on, because it makes things look better.

Years ago I used to say that if one spent a lot of money one could have results with Windows that were almost as good as RISC OS (years previously and for a much less) - i.e. with Cleartype.

There are various programs around that let you adjust the clear type effect, I've used them and it does produce better results.

Finally, software producers with deep enough pockets (Adobe) can produce their own font managers which produce superior results to Windows - this is not surprising given e.g. the RISC OS font manager.

Makes one wonder what MS did with all the $billions 8-)
