[softwarelist] Re: OPW - PDF - Printing

At the risk of asking another silly question ...

I have a number of OPW documents containing pictures. On top of certain pictures I have placed small text and picture frames (text frames contain single letters; picture frames contain arrows or scales). One picture frame with a white background is overlaid on a 1bpp picture (#1). One text frame with a grey background and containing a letter that has been coloured white is overlaid on a picture frame containing an 8bpp photo (#2).

Using DirectPS I generated PS files of the OPW documents in question, and from the PS files I generated press quality PDFs (using Acrobat Distiller v8).

When viewed on screen, the PDFs seem fine. Printing the PDFs to my LaserJet 1200-series using PCL6 emulation ... again everything seems OK. But printing the same PDFs to a PS printer (HP LaserJet P3005 PS, language level 3 set in PS options) ... PROBLEMS

In the case of #1 -- picture frame was printed with a transparent (vs white) background, so that what I was trying to hide behind the frame showed through.

In the case of #2 -- the white letter (on the grey background) was no longer visible.

MY QUESTION IS ... what could be the cause of the problem when outputting the PDF to a PS printer? Is the same likely to happen when the PDF is printed commercially?
