[softwarelist] Re: Lost Registration

For some reason my copy of Ovation Pro (RISCOS) threw a wobbly today
and wouldn't start up but gave an error instead. One of these address
exception ones.

That in itself is a problem to investigate.

I downloaded another copy from the website and transferred my Reg Data
file into it.
But now I can't save any files.

Sounds like you installed the demo version. In passing I should say that the demo version won't save files, and the full version won't run if wrongly registered. In other words the RegData file does not control if a version saves or not.

Please tell me how to change this as I have open files that I cannot
save at the moment!

This sort of thing happens to me - I make the demo version, and then edit a file, and find I can't save it. I have always had to scrap the work.

I can only think of things like saving text. I think you can save stories as DDL from the demo version, so that might preserve a lot of your work. Printing works from the demo version.

I came back here tonight to post my brilliant idea of transferring chapters between two copies via the clipboard - say you'd run another copy of the full version - but I now think that only works on Windows.

You say above "I can't save any files". Exactly why not? I'm presuming because you're running the demo version - which will tell you that is the reason you can't save. But perhaps there is another explanation?

You might be able to *save the memory contents - but you'd need to be a talented programmer to get away with that.
