What do you mean by "you can't link master pages together by yourself"?
You can't link pages, you can only link frames on pages. So which frames
are we talking about?
Links on master pages come in two types - autolink (frames autolinked
can't contain text on the master pages, but will automatically create
new pages when text is put into them in the document), and normal links
(these frames can contain text in the master pages).
