Artworks and Photodesk are different things (chalk, cheese).
Photodesk. What file format do you export files from this in? In addition what colour model are you using in Photodesk? For example you might use the CMYK colour model and export the images as sprites. Do that and black will only appear on one plate.
Artworks. You can put an Artworks file in Ovation Pro, OP understands ArtWorks files (assuming the ArtWorks applet is loader). Again ArtWorks files can be in RGB or CMYK colour models (or a mixture).
For spot colours there is a button on the Picture->Process window which tells OP to match the colour names in the ArtWorks files to the colour names in the OP document (see use spots in chapter 13 in the OP manual).
