A halftone b/w picture that I am trying to scan (DPlngScan 1.24) ends
up with a mottled appearance. I can clear this from the lighter sky
part but not the main image. If it is relevant, the picture was
published in a journal in 1939.
ISTR that this was covered here some time ago. Is there a fix?
Is the mottling seen only on screen or is it apparent in a printout?
If the former it seems to be caused by a reaction between the halftone
screen and the screen resolution
I can usually get rid of it by applying a 3 pixel gausian blur without
losing
too much crispness
