On RISC OS, if you install TransFSI which comes with OP then that should
handle GIFs transparently - i.e. just drag and drop GIF into OP frame.
On Windows there is a filter supplied that does the same job.
I'd say converting to JPEG is not a good idea - because GIFs have 8 bits
per pixel or less of colour information whilst JPEGs have 24 the image
might well take up more space as JPEG, and there is the distinct
possibility of it looking worse.
