I can reproduce this on both Windows and RISC OS, it seems that
selecting "All stories" is the key thing.



If some text is selected then OP only searches the selected text, so
this is an operation that should not be doing very much - the all
stories setting should be ignored.
I appreciate this may irritate, I've fixed the above problem in OP for Windows before RISC OS, the latest version is available from: 

http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/DavidPilling/OvationPro/InstallOvnPro.exe

Now I'll fix it for RISC OS...
