Before you Wiped and Reinstalled, were you able to identify the offending
item, if so, quite often a search of the MS site (Or Google) will bring up
a number of manual solutions, like the name of the file(s) to be deleted,
and the fix required in the registry to complete the dumping process.
Yes I found what the thing was, but I didn't find a solution on Google.
Later I found a news story which pointed to that version only appearing
last week.
I did have a go at manually removing it but I didn't have much luck, it
seemed to have locked all the things one wanted to delete, and even
deleting files using another copy of XP just led to them being
recreated. I said the anti virus software repeatedly claimed to have
fixed things, but had failed.
I was happier starting from scratch, even if I'd been able to remove the
virus I would have done so.
I don't have much experience of these things, hence the story.
