It is indeed far from ideal but note that the zero page is protected in
RISC OS 4 (or in Select ? Certainly in RISC OS 6) for User Mode programs.

So the, unfortunately, common NULL ptr write (even when offset is used)
makes any application die (which is probably then perceived by the user
that RISC OS 4 is less stable but it is in fact the application which is
faulty).

I don't think that's the case in RISC OS 5, or is it ?
