Research Associate in Dance (Fixed-term)
(Part-time PhD studentship linked to a Teaching Assistantship 50% FTE) 

This post is an exceptional opportunity for a well qualified graduate with 
research ambitions and teaching potential in Higher Education. The position is 
a clearly defined training/career development position and will provide the 
opportunity for study towards a PhD on a part-time basis coupled with part-time 
teaching experience in the School of Performance and Cultural Industries. 
Teaching responsibilities will be allocated in the light of current workloads 
of existing academic staff, and of the experience and aptitude of the 
successful applicant. Potential PhD topics are within the area of dance with 
new media technologies   e.g. creative processes in dance and new technology 
collaborations; choreography for new media environments; embodiment of the 
digital interface in choreography/performance.  Departmental research in these 
areas has a track record of collaboration with commercial partners. Projects 
have attracted funding from AHRC, EPSRC, and JISC.

The post is available from 1 September 2009 for a fixed term until 31 August 
2011. At the end of the fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory 
performance, you may be reappointed for 2-4 years (depending upon how long it 
takes to complete the PhD) but the training post will not be extended beyond 31 
August 2013.

University Grade 6 (£24,152 - £28,839 p.a. pro rata) or University Grade 7 
(£29,704 - £35,469 p.a. pro rata), plus annual stipend of £6,300; PhD fees will 
be paid by the School.
