ALTROEQUIPE[1][1] presents PYCTA, a multimedia performance situates between the
more important international researches in the ambit of performing between
dance, sound, architecture, digital capture of the movement (motion capture)
and its animation in 3D(motion graphics).
The production of complex spectacular forms, like PYCTA, is made possible from
the extraordinary cohabitation between the scientific ambit and the creative
one of artists and computer researchers, that constitute the whole operating
system of ALTROEQUIPE, on the live scene of the contemporary theatre, towards
the current transformation of the formationâs processes and through the
digital innovation of the communication.
PYCTA its origin in the specifics of Lucia Latourâs choreography, to flow
into a large creative system, in which interact the sound by David Barittoni
and Maurizio Giri, the architecture by Orazio Carpenzano, the interventions of
the motion capture technologies, by Marco Donati and Mounir Zok, researchers
from Department of Human Motor and Sport, DiSMUS - IUSM, directed by Aurelio
Cappozzo, and of della motion graphics technologies, direction by Flaviano
Pizzardi, art director of POOL FACTORY. The video projections that characterise
the immersive space of PYCTA are managed by Andrea Carfagna, MUSIC HOUSE.
It should be stressed that the technological system formed by Motion Capture,
VICON Real Time, provided by DiSMUS - IUSM in collaboration with AURION s.r.l.,
and by Motion Graphics Set, provided by POOL FACTORY, is used in real time in
the PYCTA live; this opportunity is rare and valuable in this international
research combining performing arts and digital imagery.
PYCTA, a stereoplastic micro-world.
In PYCTA, the aim is to capture several dancers in a single reactive
environment consisting of choreography, sound, architecture and digital imagery
produced by motion capture and motion graphics. The nine infrared cameras for
optical electronic stereometry (motion capture) are inserted in the stage space
and define an ample capture that coincides with an important part of the
performance scene.
The show moves towards current scientific trend, and the digital imagery
provides new Âmodelling of the living and non-living material, in the
specific direction of the Âtheory of emergingÂ, applied to the processes of
Ânew robotics and Âartificial lifeÂ.
Dance is the living material that interacts with its digital conversion
(dematerialisation), the motion capture system (motion capture) and the
transfiguration of motion (motion graphics). These are an integral part of the
choreography programme and the spatial system.
The inert bodies and living forces are inserted in the stereoplastic space of
the scene, Pycta chamber, and involve the protagonists and audience in a joint
multi-perception experience, proposed by the various kinetics provided by the
living and the digital bodies.
Since a long time exercises that try to mix different disciplines are carried
out, in PYCTA the digital performers capture in Âreal time the fluid dance
and change it into solid fragmentations of digital choreography, or in fluent
spaces of living architecture.
Contrary to the cinema where to the public is proposed the special effects, got
with similar technologies without other cognitive possibility of the used
tools, the PYCTA performance puts to direct contact with the audience so the
computer process of the capture of the movement of performers, that the
special effects got from its animation in 3D.
This precious opportunity gives to the initiative a high educative level but
also enlarges its communication to a bigger public that has been put in touch
with the digital technologies thanks to the progressive spreading of the
informatic culture.
STEREOPLASTIC WORKSHOP 2
On the scene of PYCTA, the 27 th, 28 th, 29 th of september, from 1.00 to 5.00
pm , at the Vascello Theatre, Via G. Carini 78, Rome (IT), it is proposed a
workshop based on the interactive process between dance, sound, architecture,
the capture of movement with motion capture VICON Real Time and the animation
in 3D with MAYA. We use instruments of high technological level that have been
lent by the DiSMUS-IUSM, in collaboration with AURION s.r.l., for the
educational initiative of ALTROEQUIPE
The workshop is directed by Lucia Latour and Orazio Carpenzano, with the
parteceipation of Aurelio Cappozzo, director of DiSMUS/IUSM, David Barittoni
and Maurizio Giri, for the sound, Marco Donati e Mounir Zok (DiSMUS/IUSM), for
Motion Capture VICON - Real Time, Flaviano Pizzardi for Motion Graphics -MAYA
(POOL FACTORY). The presence of the artists, of the researchers and technicians
that to varying degree form the components of the research within PYCTA is
expected.
The workshop is destined to University students and open to professionals
active in the areas of performative arts, architecture, motion capture and
motion graphics
