You are invited to a preview performance of:
A Midsummer Night?s Dream by William Shakespeare
An experimental performance using digital technology and virtual fairies
Thursday 15th March, 7.30 p.m
The Performance Centre, Bretton Hall campus
School of Performance & Cultural Industries
University of Leeds
The fairy world of Shakespeare?s 'Dream' has been given a contemporary twist
through the work of academics and students at the University of Leeds.
Projected scenery is used to create a dynamic and fluid virtual world, where
digitally animated sprites interact with live performers. Virtual fairies
combine with echoes of the corporate world of 'The Apprentice' and the use of
popular dance music to create a heady, eclectic theatrical mix.
Directors Scott Palmer and Dr Sita Popat, from the School of Performance &
Cultural Industries at the University of Leeds, have been working in this field
over the last two years in collaboration with digital media artists KMA. It is
the first time that our experimental research has been showcased to a public
theatre audience.
There will be a brief post-show discussion where we would welcome your critical
and constuctive feedback. Drinks will be provided!
You can reserve your free tickets for the Preview performance on Thursday 15th
March through the Performance Centre box office on 0113 343 9245 or by email at
boxoffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . If you can't make the Thursday then we
would be delighted to see you at one of the public performances on Friday 16th
March or Saturday 17th March @ 7.30 p.m (tickets priced £4.50).
This work has been funded with assistance from the Faculty of Performance,
Visual Arts & Communications at the University of Leeds, NESTA (National
Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), and AHRC (Arts & Humanities
Research Council).
We do hope you will join us.
