Denison University seeks full-time, 12-month renewable administrative
appointment of Director of Collaborative Technologies to serve the
Fine Arts division (Departments of Art, Cinema, Dance, Music, and
Theatre) and the fine arts digital media lab and Center of
Collaborative Technologies , to begin October 2006. The Director
will be an arts media specialist fluent in cutting-edge fine arts
hardware and software (music, theater, video/cinema, visual arts, and
dance technology), and a working artist who uses technology as an
expressive medium. We seek candidates who are visionary, creative,
energetic and collaborative. Candidates must have managerial skills
and teaching background so that he/she may work creatively to develop
programs that interconnect all of the five arts departments and their
visions.
The Director will have responsibilities/skills in three different areas:
(1) Develop programs and coordinate artistic projects among faculty
members (sometimes with guest artists and/or with students), work as
a collaborator, as well as host guest artists for the division.
Create and maintain web pages for publicity for these projects and
for the arts departments. He/she will be directly involved with the
development of the curriculum around technology both in the Division
as a whole and in the various departments.
(2) The Vail Director will be responsible for organizing the day-to-
day operations of the lab, including training and supervising student
assistants, identifying, evaluating and updating appropriate hardware
and software, budgeting for hardware and software, informing Fine
Arts faculty of new resources including training and demonstrations
of new technologies and working with faculty to develop collaborative
projects. The Director will be responsible for developing
programming and showcasing opportunities for the center (exhibitions,
performances, visiting artists) and the scheduling of the center’s
facilities. The Director will provide first-level support for
specialized applications throughout the Fine Arts and will be
expected to draw upon Computing Services for additional support. The
Director’s work will be closely coordinated with Instructional
Technology staff and others in Computing Services to ensure the best
possible outcomes for students and faculty whose work increasingly
depends upon digital technologies.
(3) The Director will teach one arts survey course in collaborative
arts technology per semester, or no more than two courses per year.
In addition he/she is expected to develop and teach technical and
collaborative workshops for faculty.
Qualifications include a BA, BM, BS, or BFA degree (MFA preferred or
equivalent professional experience), being an actively exhibiting
artist, and having a track record in computer technology (preference
for Macs or Unix system) with microcomputers and servers in a
networked environment with Mac OSX, Novell and utility programs.
Salary commensurate with experience, with full benefits. Review of
