Subject: Aquatic ecologist/field coordinator position
FYI - Please pass along to any interested individuals.
The Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Program is seeking someone to
supervise/coordinate the aquatic sampling of wetlands and streams. The
ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific method and data
collection in aquatic systems with real practical skills (ie., adequate
field experience) and the ability to supervise others. A post graduate
degree (MSc) would be preferred but not necessary. Any experience in
sampling or identification of the following would be an
asset: benthic macroinvertebrates, benthic algae, aquatic vegetation
(vascular plants), aquatic invertebrates, water physiochemistry, fish,
amphibians, and visual ID of birds and mammals.
We are currently looking for someone to start in a term position for May
2006, as a member of a field crew, and for lack of a better word "groom" the
appropriate person into a fulltime posting starting in January, 2007.
Initially, the person will begin collecting field data to becoming familiar
with the monitoring protocols and logistics of ABMP sampling (term
position). If the candidate is qualified or shows potential to grow and
expand into a larger role, they will become a preferential candidate for
full-time employment as the aquatics field coordinator. As a field
coordinator, the candidate will be responsible for hiring, training, and
supervising the aquatic field sampling component for the ABMP. The
coordinator will need to ensure sampling is conducted in a consistent and
high quality manor, have very good problem solving skills, handle and manage
data, select and characterize wetlands and streams, and facilitate
communication between staff and the senior scientist.
The position would be based out of the Alberta Research Council, Vegreville,
AB. For more information on the ABMP, please visit www.abmp.arc.ab.ca

Please send resumes to the address below and/or contact me personally for
more information regarding this position.
