The emergency rally today, Thursday, Feb. 16, starts at 5 p.m. and is
outside the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detention facility at
201 Varick Street on the corner of Houston Street in Manhattan. Closest
subways are Houston St. on the 1 train, or West 4th Street on the A, B, C,
D, E, F and M trains. Please attend if you can. Dress warmly, it will be
cold.
The protest is called by New York Communities for Change and Make the Road,
both close to the Democratic Party. The immediate focus is to demand
freedom Daniel Ramirez Medina in Seattle, who is the first DACA recipient
("Dreamer") detained by ICE to be deported, and to demand a stop to the ICE
raids.
While ICE has escalated its raids under Republican Trump, the Democratic
Obama administration deported upwards of 5.5 million immigrants, the
highest number in history. Class Struggle Education Workers, Trabajadores
Internacionales Clasistas (Class Struggle International Workers), the
Internationalist Group and CUNY Internationalist Clubs have called to flood
the streets in the face of *migra* raids and for independent
worker-immigrant action to stop deportations.
