Re: Jacqui Labrom & Ralph
I just did a very general estimate of 50 million gourdes. Came up with
$1,000,000 U.S., which is probably under a little.
One million dollars invested in building a small, quality hospital would
create jobs and health care for the next 50 years!
Gheskio did a revamping of their T.B./HIV clinic with around $400,000.
They have under twenty beds and a state of the art facility. So a little
over $1,000,000 would create a nice woman and children's facility with
about 30 beds.
Another administration like the last one: Spend and play. Bread and Circus.
When three-quarters of the plane leaving Haiti is filled with nursing
students returning from a volunteer mission--everyone must see that there
is a great need for medical personnel and recovery.
Pontificating on the Corbett list doesn't change a thing, so this is my
short opinion.
Economics is everything. I read the piece on the List, a week or so back
about an attempt to help Haitian farmers overcome the world decline in the
price of cocoa. Now, that is a long lasting venture. Where is the Haitian
government in assisting farmers?Leaving it up to private enterprise, while
they spend millions on inauguration and a week of Carnival!
Nothing can be done, as this administration was the choice of the upper
classes and the rest of Haiti didn't care.
