Well one of President Jovenel's main platforms during his campaign
was Agriculture, and true to his word, in his Inauguration speech yesterday
he said that he wanted to modernise agriculture in Haiti.
He went on to say he wanted to reform Education and enable children to
be educated well enough to face the world - and the implication was
to get them jobs.
Again during his campaign he promised to strengthen Tourism and he
talked about this quite a lot. We're hoping he has kept his promise made
to the ATH to invite Stephanie Villedrouin to come back as Tourism Minister.
The other aspect of his speech was for everyone to work together.
He said he was there for the people who voted for him, for those that
voted for another candidate, and also for those who did not vote at all.
He also said he wanted Justice for all, without exception.
He also asked that even if you were from another party or another religion,
for everyone to get along with each other.
He said that he encouraged the Diaspora to help their native country,
and to invest in businesses where they can.
And I think he promised that he would have a Senator and 3 Deputies to
look after the Diaspora interests! I'm not sure what that actually means!!
His speech was very moving and he was very humble.
He said that he hoped when he finished his term in 5 years that people would
see a changed Haiti - for the better!
