[COMP] wow, netflix

This service isn't exactly *new*, but I just heard about it today, and
it's incredibly cool for anyone who's into DVD's.

I'm a blockbuster junkie. When I can afford it and I've got people to
watch 'em with, I'm picking up a couple movies a week, and it gets costly.

Netflix (netflix.com) is along the same routine, only with DVD's instead
of VHS, and they get ALL the new releases on DVD, not just a couple a week
a la Blockbuster.

The service rocks. You pay $20/month. Period. You "rent" all the DVD's
you want at no extra charge. They mail them to you, with a SASE-sort of
thing. You watch the DVD, keep it as long as you like, and drop it in the
mail when you're done.

The catch is that you can only have 4 discs out at once (for $30, you can
have 8 out at once), so you lose some efficiency while stuff is in transit
through the mail. Still, you could easily get 10 or so movies a month,
which translates to $2 per rental-- that's $1.50 cheaper than blockbuster,
and you don't have to deal with late fees. And if you play the mail
right, you can definitely get more than 10 movies/month anyway. Besides,
they've got something like 8,500 movies to choose from!

As soon as I can afford to get the new dvd player, I'm signing up. This
is a very cool service, and I wish people would think of things like this
more often. :)
