[COMP] which is parity ram?

Hello, is parity the uneven number of chips on a stick of ram?
and hence non-parity is the even number of chips???
In other words- a stick with 8 chips has no extra self correcting chip?
I think that may be why one of my new (to me) Gateway boards wont post
video...
