Wow, old thread. :)
Both Gnome and KDE are "powersucking" GUIs. They're better than Windows,
for the most part, but they're still to klunky for my taste. However, if
you want the look-n-feel of windows, there's nothing quite like KDE.
To clarify: these ALL run on "Xwindow" (there's no 's'). X is the
underlying foundation for the whole thing, and your window manager (kwm
(comes with kde), enlightenment, windowmaker, etc.) and all applications
are just clients to the "X Server." I could go on for a long time, but I
think that's enough. :)
