Uhm, getting to *see* the linux box in the "network neighborhood" may or 
may not ever happen.  That's based heavily on netbeui working, which, 
because it's such an abhorrent protocol, was never (and won't ever be) 
implemented on Linux. 

Now, once you get a connection to the linux box, it might show up in the 
'hood, but I'm not sure of that either.

Just don't start X.  The true power is on the CLI.  No GUI can give you 
the amount of power you get from the CLI.  If you're gonna use X (c'mon, 
everyone does, right? :)), just use xterm's to do your work in.
