[COMP] changing motherboards => reinstall?

Hi,

my motherboard just gave up on me, and i had to buy a new one, with a
new processor also. So far so good, and I thought that i could just
change the harddisks onto that motherboard and continue.
But no... Windows 2000 (that is running on this computer) is very
sensitive about that (even more than win9x), and you really have to
reinstall.
I find this very funny: if I were running win2000 on critical servers,
and had to change the motherboard, or even the processor (which will
have to be done once, i'm sure off), then I dont want to lose time with
reinstalling all the rest...

So, any thoughts about that? How "sensitive" is linux about this?

If a man were beset by green demons, and took
his problem to the church, a priest would pray
for the sickness in his soul. If he took his
problem to the doctor, a psychiatrist would
probe for the sickness in his mind. But only a
consulting philosopher would pick up a stick and
help him chase the demons.
