[COMP] Trade marking your domain in US

Hello All,
I have a .com domain name. I am a bit worried about some stuff I have read
where .com domain owners who did not register their domain as a trademark or
something like that in US are forced to relinquish the domain name. (e.g.
etoy vs etoys)
Does anyone knows how I can register my.com domain my self without going
through does expensive patent agents.
