Ahh, well plugging into the uplink port will getcha everytime. :)  It 
could be a bad port as well, but that's rare.  You should mark the port so 
no one else tries to use it (unless it's the uplink, of course).  
Congratulations on your switch to CS and programming, btw.  I took the 
same track my senior year in high school (psych -> CS).

Jeez, I'd love to, but New Orleans is a bit far for me.  You'll definitely 
want to contact Eric Raymond though (http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr), but do 
it right away- he's got about a six month backlog of speaking 
arrangements.  He's the best though...
