[COMP] Re: Strange network problem

> What could cause a network socket to respond to only one computer?

This could be a lot of things. Unfortunately, Windows networking
(especially with Novell) leaves a lot to the imagination, and
troubleshooting problems can take years off your life. It was one of the
many frustrations of the job that actually moved me to recently quit my
full time job with ISU. Go figure. :)

Anyway, here's the deal: either your network card is bad, or there's a
software config problem. I would tend to lean toward the latter to start
with, so follow me here:

1) Remove ALL networking stuff, including the adapter.
2) Reboot.
3) Reinstall the adapter, whether this requires letting windows detect it,
whatever.
4) Reboot.
5) Reinstall your networking components (Client's and protocols).
6) Reboot.

If you're not on the network after that, I'd look to bad hardware. It
could still be the software though- I've had machines that wouldn't
network without being formatted. It's times like these that we'd usually
boot with our linux disk and try networking just to make sure it wasn't
hardware.

If you'd like to take this route, I developed a mini-distribution just for
this type of stuff that's quite easy to use. Lemme know if you'd like the
download location...
