I have a Windows 98 machine and an NT server machine. I have two network
cards in my NT machine and one Ethernet port to my home. I would like to
have route IP packets through my NT machine to my 98 machine.
I already read a load of documentation on this but I still can't get it to
work. The NIC in the NT machine that is connected to the incoming Ethernet
port obtains its IP address from a DHCP server. Its IP address is static as
long as I connect once every three days. The second NIC in the NT machine I
set up manually with an IP address of 172.16.0.1 and a netmask of
255.255.255.0. The 98 machine also has a NIC that I set up manually to an
IP address of 172.16.0.2 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and a default
gateway of 172.16.0.1.
According to the documentation I've read this should work. The 98 machine
can see both NICs in my NT machine, but it can't get out beyond the NT
machine. Am I doing something wrong.
I've checked the routing tables and even installed RIP to do it
automatically and neither one works. Please let me know if you can help.
