I agree, but I see the "certification" thing as being troublesome too. I've
met/worked with a lot of MCSE's that are complete idiots, and others who know
their stuff quite well. But most of the "really good ones" have no
certifications whatsoever. It seems that the idiots give the MCSE a bad name.
The thing is that most of the certifications now are based on a written test,
and for the most part, writing down answers and filling in bubbles doesn't test
your knowledge of real-world applications and such. Perhaps certifications
should be based on "number of years experience," "things I've accomplished,"
or "number and type of sticky situations I've gotten companies out of."
I think right now it's just like any other piece of paper: too much value is
placed on what test you've taken rather than what you actually can do.
