I'm confused about what screen during boot you're not getting. You should
still get the screen that displays the manufacturer's logo, tests your
memory, detects IDE devices, etc., before turning things over to the OS.
If you don't get this, there's something wrong with your
motherboard/cpu/bios chip/ram.
The operating system has nothing to do with BIOS, so upgrading to SE
wouldn't have caused any changes at the cmos level. Perhaps it just looks
different right after POST?
