[COMP] Fwd: Serial Port

Folks, nothing's wrong with the list. Traffic has been *really* low
lately, but it's all still here. It's still ok to send your questions
here. :)

John

I am sending this to you directly since I haven't seen
any mail coming into COMP lately.
Forward this to the list if you wish.

I am having problems with an old PC. It does not have

any PS/2 ports, so I am trying to get a serial mouse
working on it. When I plug in the mouse(which
definately works)
Windows 95 loads as normal, but nothing happens when
I move the mouse or click the buttons. However if I
start Windows without the mouse attached, a message
pops up saying that a serial mouse can be attached to
the system safely.

My question is, can Windows detect that nothing is
attached to the port if it is broken?
Surely since the mouse does not work when I plug it in
means that the port is not working, no?

Thanks for any help

Shane
