Whew..Donna...thanks a lot..that kinda is what I needed all along.
You
explained it very well for me. I do appreciate it. I do have one
question,
is it true that you can't change/make a master hd into a slave hd?
I was
told that there is something like that..you can make a slave into a
  master..but you can't make a master into a slave...or is that taken
out of
  context?
I really really appreciate how you explained that to me. REALLY!
:)
I am going to attempt all this tomorrow.. I didn't want to keep
bothering
the list with all my "newbie" questions about this..since I'm sure
most of
you can do this with your eyes closed. <BG>
I will now attempt it. I know this is probably small fries to most
of you,
so I thank you all for your patience! With all this help from my
cts (and
  Comp, John) :) friends..I think I can..I think I can.. :)

Hi Jackie, there are a few older drives that are kinda particular about which
one needs to be master and which ones refuse to be slave. But for the most part
all of em can be either.
Some Hdd need jumpers only if there is to be a secondary slave attached, e.g.
its the same setting if its a stand alone/ or a master (sometimes with a western
digital that can mean no jumper at all) and with most Maxtors I've seen j50 is
on if its stand alone/ or if its a master.
(meaning the only thing to change on a Maxtor is if its to be a
secondary.....get the picture?)
So you gotta read the docs for your hdd to make sure, its no biggie, if your
bios refuses to see it just put em back the other way.
With late model hdd that is....some older ones can get cranky if you change lba
or other bios settings on em.
Hope that didn't add to any confusion:)
David
