Hi. Happy new millinium to everyone on the list!

I think I maybe have encounted the similar mess before. IMHO, this is not the 
question of the software but the hardware,i.e., the question of the scanner. 
Maybe 
the following steps can help you out.  Just power off the scanner, then restart 
the 
computer. After that, power on the scanner again. Then try again. 
How? I only know I have ever resolved this mess using this method before.
