that the motherboard doesn't support parity, and doesn't have a way of
disabling the feature (controlled in bios).

thanks John, the ram chips were all pulled- the guy who traded parts with me
tried em all to see how many mb they were. He didn't know one of the pairs
were 16mb, all the others post at 4m each- I got a couple of used 8s at the
last show.
I called Gateways 800# and much to my surprise a tech helped me navigate
their site and found each of the specs on the mobo's :)
Some wouldn't post cause some Gateways from that era are grounded via the
screws that hold the mobo in- I will have to match those mobos up to the
cases that have steel gromets rather than plastic supports.
I also found that I can go to the Micron web site for more specific info-
Micron made the mobos for Gateway- ditto for the ATI vesa vid cards...I don't
think I will spend a lot of time on these. Just gonna get the best of em up
and running for my youngest daughter- load 95b on it and network it to the
others.
I will however fiddle with the dual CPU one! That may turn out to be my
firewall project....or a Linux/ Apache server...

PS- the guy from my church who gave me NT server (he develops software and
used to get MS products at no charge)- screwed up, I couldn't get NT to load
cause it wasn't the OS- he mistakenly gave me the service pack and the 3 boot
disks...now he doesn't work there anymore.
I bought a copy of NT workstation so I can play with that now, since Redhat
didn't install correctly:(
Hey? Cant I get phone support from Redhat? isn't that why I paid for the book
and CD??
If all I wanted was the OS I could've d/led that alone for free!
