Unfortunately, you're right.

I've just read the label on the box: it says "SM56K Motorola PCI Local Bus
Modem".

I understand that "SM" stands for "software modem", with means that there´s
no way it's going to work under Linux.

Here in Brazil we've got xDSL access to the net, but it is still too much
expensive (about $300 a month).

Well, I think I'm gonna buy another modem, just to install Linux correctly.
I'm really eager to experience this OS. It's free, but I have already spent
lots of time and some bucks to make it work ...

Anyway, I'm learning lots of things. Thank you all who have answered.
