I'm not sure if you can patch 95A to do Usb; I think that was one of the
benefits of getting B. :(
I'd think twice about win2000 though, it's originally not targeted at home
users, and it's pretty yucky- big and slow. You need at least a P166 just to
run it! Anyway, Windows Millennium, the next 'consumer' release (like win98,
part 2), won't be out until either later this year, or early '01.

There should be no reason to force it in there. I think the problem here is
that you're dealing with a shared PCI/ISA slot, which is already used by an
ISA device. Take a look at the PCI (white) and ISA (black) slots again- notice
how the two you're looking at are closer together than the rest of the slots?
Only one of the pair can be in use at a time. You'll have to use another
PCI slot for your new card. You should never have to "force" something into a
PC.
