There are a few answers here. :) First off, there are entire
distributions of Linux that fit on one or two floppies, so you can learn
most of the OS without having to install it on any hard drive. These
don't include X Window though, so if you want it pretty and graphical,
you'll have to look elsewhere.

Next, there are distributions that actually install themselves right on
your FAT16 partitions. The "filesystem" used here is called the UMSDOS
filesystem, and it's nice n convenient because you don't have to do any
partitioning.

Finally, there's the old standby, and the preferred way of doing things-
repartitioning everything, and getting a "pure" install. I suggest you
try one of the first two, and when you're comfortable, try this one
out.

Hmm, wait, there's one other: ever heard of VMware? If you don't mind
the 100 bucks, this piece of software allows you to run multiple OS's at
the same time, through what's called "virtual machines." All of the
hardware is emulated through software though, so it's really slow, but
it's another option.

Well, Unix file management is actually much more logical (and even
easier to understand, once you're used to it) than the DOS stuff. In
dos, you've got "drive letters," but there's no such thing under unix-
everything is one, big, sleek path. More on that, if anyone's
interested, but I think it veers off course a bit. :)

Hmm. I don't think there's really anything to it- you install it, and
it'll integrate itself into your menus. You'll get options like 'add to
zip...' when you right click on a file. There's probably even more to
it than that, but I've only used the shareware version.
