[Comp] Anti Virus Troubles or OS Troubles

Hi List,
This is the weirdest thing. I recently upgraded my MB & chip. Since doing
that I tried to install Norton Utilities, minus Crashguard and my comp went
nuts. Windows would not load. It took me forever to get in thru Safe Mode
and uninstall it all without the use of my mouse. Ate that too. Finally got
things to work minus Norton's.
I then borrowed a Norton's Anti Virus and tried to install it . More of the
same. I thought that maybe there was something wrong with the discs.
Went out and bought McAfee Anti Virus, just tried to install it and same
thing all over again. When I was finally able to get rid of it and get Win
to load, had no mouse. Was able to keep calm and finally got my mouse back.
Does anyone have any ideas? This OS will not let me install Antivirus
software.
