| The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Bank
and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs are pleased to
announce the upcomingGLOBAL FORUM ON REMITTANCES, INVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
2017(GFRID2017)to take place inNew York on 15-16 June 2017.The GFRID2017 will
focus on the contribution that family remittances, in partnership with the
private sector stakeholders, can make toward achieving the UN Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. An overview of the opportunities offered by
the global remittance marketplace will also be presented.This event is the
fifth in a series of Global Forums organized by IFAD and previously held in
Milan (2015), Bangkok (2013), Tunis (2009) and Washington (2007). It is
designed to explore how innovation and competition will likely impact the
remittance industry going forward, and the prospects for diaspora and impact
investment.Each day will be devoted to the discussion of key issues from the
following areas:15 June:PRIVATE SECTOR DAYat theInterContinental New York
Barclay.This day will be dedicated to a cross-sector exchange. It will bring
together financial industry representatives and technology entrepreneurs with
government policymakers and regulators, with the aim to share new innovative
instruments, promote synergies and partnerships, and discuss challenges and
opportunities in the remittance market.---TheRemittance Marketplacewill run
parallelto the Forum on 15 June to allow private-sector entities, international
organizations and other major stakeholders to exhibit their products and
services, while sharing best practices and lessons learned.---16 June:PUBLIC
SECTOR DAY and celebration of theINTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILY REMITTANCES,
hostedat theUnited Nations Headquarters.In addition to the celebration, this
day will also be dedicated to translating market realities and development
priorities into potential joint, cross-sector opportunities. While addressing
governmental and development agencies’ perspectives, the sessions will aim to
create a common ground for both the private sector and civil society, and
identify opportunities to maximize the social and economic impact of migration
and development through remittances and investment.Over300 participants from
public and private sectors and the civil society are expected to attend both
