Lesson 4 Question 6 Telnet tutorial http://oregonstate.edu/cws/tutorials/command-shell/ Telnet was used to access a computer mainframe account back when computers were very large. To access the user account a network connection to the server is required. Once the telnet connection was established, the user had access to their files and folders. The user interface to the account was a simple command prompt. Once the user was logged on, they had privileges that allowed them to run applications on the server as thou their keyboard and monitor was connected directly to the remote server. I imagine this is why there are so few open telnet servers to access on the internet. I tried our the telnet server at the IPAC Extragalactic Database at telnet://134.4.10.106. It was very confusing but at least it was menu driven. I tried searching for information, but the only section I was able to access was the news section. Phil Brown
