Create a brief report on telnet. Tell us: what you learned about telnet?s uses (provide a URL to document where you learned this) http://www.northernwebs.com/bc/bc70.html was a good resource as in how to connect and some faqs. Telnet was a precursor to web browsers and is used as a way to acess computers from other locations, providing a basic port for users to connect directly and command other computer's from a remote access. Nowadays, they can also be use to form virtual rooms or 'worlds' know as MUD or MUCK. There are still many MUD and MUCK games played through this system, much to my suprise, since GUI interface games are typically preffered. It's very complex to someone who is used to the simplicity of the internet to navigate one of these without a good knowledge of controls :) Ithen tried to access several libraries and databases formed on Telnet but I couldn't make head or tails of unix controls so I just returned to the game site and tested different controls. where did you practice telnet (again, support this with a URL) telnet://3k.org:3000/ (user) guest (main site for this game: http://www.3k.org/) tell us what happened, and mention at least one thing that you learned about telnet as you tried using it. (Note: a report that it didn't work is not a sufficient answer). I logged in and was able to access different things including chat and help, as well as different rooms for this. That every charachter including backspace is counted as a keystroke and recorded and you must know basic unix commands. You have to be very precise and specific. Also passwords when typed in do not show any keystroke movement until you hit enter, you have no mouse control or special keys because you are acting as a 'dumb terminal'. I knew nothing about telnet before but I have a basic understanding of what it was used for and still can be used for.I found it very interesting and will be passing on some of the information to my younger sister and a few friends who like roleplaying games such as 3Kingdoms (the main telnet I accessed.)
