[citw150] Lesson 4 Question 6

Well from what I have learned about telnet's uses is that a computer can
connect to another computer doesn't even matter where the computer is
located. The user's computer, which initiates the connection, is referred
to as the local computer, and the machine being connected to, which accepts
the connection, is referred to as the remote, or host, computer. A variety
of resources are available through telnet. For example:
- library catalogs

- databases

- other Internet tools such as FTP, gopher, and the World Wide Web

I don't know about you but this scares me. I would hate to know someone was
in my computer downloading information.

Here is the website from which I got all of this useful information:
http://www.adnetadvertising.com/telnet/index.html

I practice using telnet with the help from this web site:
http://www.sonomalibrary.org/telnet.html. I learned a lot from this site
knowing now that there is no color, graphics and it is pretty slow. There
is only text displayed. I went on the Sonoma County Library WWW from telnet
and the only thing I could do was enter numbers or letters. You can't even
use the mouse. I couldn't even use the Function keys. I really don't see
telnet in the future. This reminds me of a bulletin board service I used
when I had the Powerful TRS-80 Computer from Radio Shack (Some 25 plus years
ago).
