Telnet is a security flaw, and should be disabled unless it's explicitely 
used by your company.  FTP should also be disabled as well, use sFTP instead 
(the "s" stands for secure).

i logged into "Ned", read a bunch of pointless stuff, entered a few commands 
then exited and promptly re-disabled the Telnet service on my pc
