[citw150] Re: CITW 150: Lesson 3, Question 6 (Copyright)

I think that this is something very sad. In other words, why get the
copyright if you don't get the deserved respect in other places. I think
that this is something that needs to be worked on to get under control.

(Copyright) Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2005 23:07:08 -0800 (PST) As use of the
Internet grows, copyright issues will grow as well. For a number of decades,
there has been a thriving industry in pirated goods in countries such as
Kuwait. According to one estimate, the loss of US trade due to piracy in
Kuwait for the year 1996 alone amounted to $25.6 million. More than just
lossof sales though is the loss of a creator?s control over the creation.
Forexample: without copyright laws there could be dozens of different
translations of you favorite book, all unauthorized, and all VERY different.
With the Internet providing a very easy and fast way to move data around, it
becomes easier and easier for pirates to get their hands on and sell copies
of copyrighted material. For some information on the lack of copyright laws
in Kuwait, look here: http://www.infoprod.co.il/country/kuwait2d.htm (Saudi
Arabia, and Syria also have little or no copyright law) Try looking at
http://www.iipa.com/rbc/1997/rbc_kuwait_301_97.html for more information on
piracy in Kuwait. Ray Kurtis All thing being equal, the simplest answer is
usually true. There is nothing as deceptive as an obvious fact.
