One topic discussed in chapter 25 I found interesting was the act of
"phishing." Phishing involves someone sending out a fake message or being
redirected to a fake web page that gathers sensitive information, such as
credit card numbers and account numbers. It is fairly common to see these types
of messages, as I have seen them in my e-mail several times, and even on such
heavy traffic places as myspace. It is very important to never reveal sensitive
information to an unknown source claiming to be professional or legit. The main
problem with these "phishing" messages is I have seen several that look very
legitimate, and through the use of cookies, can even include things like your
name or a family members name. For more information on phishing and how it can
be prevented, visit http://www.caribvoice.org/Consumer's%20Corner/pishing.html.
This is a very helpful website on the matter of phishing prevention, and even
has the top ten prevention tips.
