One of our bigger societal issues is going to be the
protection of our personal information.  Everyone has
had to fill out forms that require information that is
unrelated to anything we are requesting.  Does the
video store really need my email address?  What
companies do with this collected information is
largely out of our control.  Often they sell it to
marketing firms and third party entities.  I recently
had to fill out a form requesting that my bank not
sell my information to a third party.  Shouldn't it be
the other way around?  While companies strive to make
more profits I am sure that this is considered another
revenue stream for them.  The demand for this
information and identity theft are a growing issue. 
The information voluntarily given needs to be better
protected to prevent identity theft and unsolicited
advertising.  Recently a large number of veterans
information came up stolen once again from a
government facility.

Hopefully incidents like these while sad will make
people take notice about the importance of the
information they posses.
