[chaoscope] Re: View Point

Hi Anton, hello all,

I often save attractors that I like, but at a later stage when opening them I
cannot recall of
ever seeing them. Similarly from chaoscope.org website gallery and parameters I
cannot recreate
unravel_les_grands_fonds.csattr

I've attached a full view of "Les Grands Fonds", with the zoomed part framed. I've also attached the right parameters, they were truncated at the 6th decimal in version 0.1.

I presume that has something to do with the view points.
Lets assume we open the program chaoscope and a new project and find our first
Strange Attractor

I presume as default we are looking at the X-Y plane i.e looking down the Z-axis.

You presume right.

With the mouse we can change our viewpoint (clicking on image and draging), i.e
to some arbitarry
point and look at the strange attractot at any angle.

Now my questions:

1. Any way of recording the viewpoint so that I can generate the same view at a later stage

If you mean saving the viewpoint in a the project file, then it will be implemented in the next version. If you mean saving a "snapshot" of the viewpoint (as a preset) for later use then it won't be. What I'm planning to do is let you duplicate a project, so if you think you've got a good viewpoint, but decide to look for a better one, you can still keep your current viewpoint and work on a copy of the project.

2. Change Attractor type say from Lorenz to Sprott, what happens to the viewpoint
a) revert back to default b) stay at the arbitary point?

b.

3. Open a second window or project, what happens to the viewpoint in the second window a) or b) above

a.

Just curious, I am sure later versions will tidy this up.

As you found out, only the viewpoint matters, the translation and scale are specific to each strange attractors. If you zoom out on a Polynomial, then disable the Auto-Adjust feature and search for attractors, you'll see them popping up at difference places with different sizes every time.
