You are talking about "affiliate" advertising....that's where the advertiser
pays the site something if the site sells their product....that's what us
little guys use cuz we can no way attract the big advertisers who pay the
big bucks...but I guarantee you that most large websites do not use this
type of advertising....if you advertise at ANY large website, you pay for
the ad based on that website's reputation...and you pay even if the ad gets
you NO business....I assure you sites like yahoo ain't doing this for free

Like the original poster said...it's JUST like TV...TV show advertisers pay
for their ads, even if we go to the bathroom during commercials and don't
watch them LOL

Well ... yahoo may be different .... but most ad services refuses to pay
only for showings cuz it's not a reliable way to see if ppl actually see
them... most places you need clicks to get paid ... I know Yahoo run their
own ad department ... so they may charge differently ... there have been a
few services in the past that gave you a little tiny bit for showing, and
alot more for clicks ... 

It's no naivity ... it's from dealing with adservices for years ... yahoo is
a different ballgame cuz they run their own show though...
