[chadfree] Hard drive problem

Hi Folks,
it's my to to ask for advice.

I picked up a pile of computer parts with an ECS K7SEM motherboard, AMD=
 Duron XP1200 and 384 meg pc 133 ram, on the weekend and managed to get=
 them working, by adding a formatted 10 gig 
Fujitsu Model # MPG3102AT hard drive.

It worked fine with Win 98 so I reformatted the hard drive.

Checked the drive with Partition Magic 8 tools everything was fine.

Tried the Linspire 4.5 live Cd works great.
Tried Knoppex live works fine.
Tried Ubuntu live works great.

I decided to use the Ubuntu 4.10 install CD, allowed it to format the drive=
 with 2 partitions works well.
Decided to allow it to update to the latest version.
text screens flashing by for 10 min then error message 

"Down loading too fast 5 min time out"
Continued getting the same error for 1hr before canceling.

Reboot Ubuntu 4.10 reloads.

I decided to reformat the drive to use Knoppex.

Error no hard drive found!

Tried Partition Magic 8 =3D  Error 88 (no hard drive)
Tried numerous boot disk, Win 95/98
Put XP pro CD in passed all the diagnostics prior to install
No hard drive error

Tried MaxBlast No hard drive

Put in old Connor 148meg hard drive all live Linux CD work.

What do I need to format the 10 gig drive so that it can be recognized by=
 other OS's
