Hi folks:

First, I want to apologize for running silent after Admiral Cate's editorial
earlier this month. Following a move cross-country in March I've faced some
serious offline issues that have made it hard for me to focus on the
Alliance. These issues are ongoing, and probably will be for a little while
yet, but I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...and it's
finally time for us to talk.

Most of you have noticed a slowdown in your sim's activity over the last few
months. Some of this is natural due to summer, but some sims have suffered
for awhile or are facing problems that summer alone can't explain. After
talking to a few people and some thought, I've narrowed it down to two
things:

1. Recruitment: CPA's recruitment is at a near standstill. The sims that
are still doing well are strong because they are actively looking in other
areas. Our academies aren't running because it simply became too difficult
to find people who MIGHT be interested in our type of game. Our visibility
on the Web is very low if not non-existent. People can't find us, and many
hosts are not good at finding them. Therefore our current crews 'age' and
either run into real life issues or tire out, and so forth.

It's been suggested that we either form alliances (trade schedules/rosters)
with other groups, or outright merge with one. The latter, at least, isn't
desirable but the fact remains we need to find a way for our sims to be more
accessible to what people are out there. Some have suggested our type of
game is being destroyed by the video game franchise....but I know of
play-by-post sites where text gaming is alive and well. (Joining a PbP site
is another idea, as they have less interest in 'taking us over.')

The second is a question of community. Our sims are now little more than
floating islands, except for a handful of players who cross sim borders.
The CPJ does a good job of letting us know what the other sims are trying to
do, but there's very little interaction. The lounges...didn't do great, and
the forums never took off. Those were really our only tools.

I have an idea or two of my own, but I'm very interested in your ideas.
Please send 'em either to me (diplomatic.incident@xxxxxxxxx) and the other
admirals ( admiralcate@xxxxxxxxx, groundzero@xxxxxxxxxxxxx), or post to the
list.
